About our Church Logo
A while back, Pastor Vic, Pastor Dan and I sat in a coffee shop in Auburn, trying to come up with a new logo for the church. The dove was fine, but in recent years it had evolved into a bit more of a corporate emblem, merely saying we were "Calvary Chapel". So we decided we wanted something that said "Jesus". In fact, we wanted something that, were you to try to describe it, would make you preach the Gospel. So we came up with what you see at the upper left of this page.

It is four doves coming together at the beak forming the shape of a rather Victorian cross in the spaces between them. The dove, of course, represents the Holy Spirit, of which there is only One, and there is no special meaning using four except we needed them to form the cross. Someone suggested the four doves could represent the work of the Spirit in the four-corners of the earth, which I liked. But the ultimate meaning, we agreed, was found in John 15:26, where Jesus said of the person and work of the Holy Spirit, "When the counselor comes...who goes out from the Father, He will testify about Me."

I love the Holy Spirit, but He doesn't seem to want glory as much as He wants to glorify the Lord Jesus. So we still have our dove (OK—four of them), but (and I hope to His liking) He is seen testifying about Jesus, forming the shape of the cross on which He paid the price for all our sins and bought our salvation.

See? It works...
